FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about ONdronecamp!

How many campers are there?

There are a maximum of 12 campers each week.

What is the ratio of counsellors to campers?

Our usual ratio is 1:4, or one counsellor per four students.

At least one first aid/CPR certified counsellor is available at all times. All counsellors have a recent Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within the previous 12 months.

Do I need to pack a lunch for my child(ren)?

Yes, you must pack a lunch and snacks for your child or children. We have a strict “no nut products” policy at our camp. We have a refrigerator and microwave available. However, each Friday, we will throw a pizza party and bringing a lunch is optional.

What if my child(ren) has/have special needs or require accommodation?

We are happy to work with your child or children if you help us understand what their needs are and how we can accommodate them. We want camp to be a fun and happy experience for every child who attends!

If they require access to prescription medication, such as carrying an epi-pen or inhaler, they can usually keep this with them during camp, or we can store these in a readily available location.

Please note our camp location is, unfortunately, not wheelchair accessible and so this is one need that we cannot yet accommodate. While we hope to offer an accessible location in the future, this will not be the case for our 2024 camps.

Is Before/After Care Available?

Yes! For a small additional charge for the week, there is before care available from 8:00am until 9:00am, and from 4:00pm until 5:00pm.

Can my child bring their own drone?

We prefer that campers do not bring their own drones, as they may get damaged or lost in the busy camp environment. However, on Days 4 and 5 when we are conducting outdoor flights, your child may bring their drone and fly it – but should discuss this with the staff during their camp week.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About our Drone Flight School

How old do I have to be to attend a Drone Flight School course?

Participants can be of any age, however in order to write the Transport Canada Basic drone exam, you must be at least 14 years old. To write the Advanced drone exam and do a Flight Review, you must be at least 16 years old.

Will there be drone flying?

This is primarily a ground school (in-class training). However, we do offer Flight Review practice sessions where participants can go through the procedures that would be on a typical Flight Review, including flying drones.

Do you guarantee I will pass the exams?

No flight school can guarantee that you will pass. However, we cover all of the mandatory subject areas on the Basic and Advanced exams as set out in Transport Canada publications, preparing you for either exam to the greatest extent possible.
