Camp Coordinator/Lead Counsellor

JOB OPPORTUNITY

POSITION TITLE:                        Counsellor

REPORTS TO:                                Camp Director

RATE OF PAY:                                 $19.25 / hr

About ONdronecamp

ONdronecamp is an exciting, unique day camp youth engagement opportunity, focused on exposing kids aged 10-15 to coding and drone flying. Employing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning models, our motivated counsellors will take our campers on an experiential journey through basics of flight, using coding languages, and exploring the creative future possibilities of drones.

Our camp is based in Dundas, Ontario, in a spacious, full-service facility and using the latest in educational programmable microdrones.

About You

You are a reliable, experienced camp counsellor or youth leader and excellent communicator who feels at home leading a team of like-minded youth engagement stars. You work well under pressure and seek and accept challenges to learn and grow from as you progress through your career. You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have a legal ability to work in Canada. You have access to transportation to work in-person at our camp facility.

Key activities

  • Implement and supervise the day-to-day activities of the Day Camp
  • Primary point of contact for communication with parents/guardians of campers
  • Support and augment the activities of the Camp Counsellors as required

Responsibilities

  • Supervising camp during daily drop-off and pick-up activities
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of campers including any sign-in and sign-out requirements
  • Prepare any necessary daily or incident reports for Camp Director, parents or other stakeholders
  • Record attendance of campers and follow up with any absences
  • Ensure adequate levels of staffing during camp hours, including adjusting or modifying the schedules as required, follow up with absent staff
  • Managing staff breaks and meal times, and adequate hold over or overtime for before and after care
  • Ensure the Camp weekly and daily activities, excursions special events are implemented
  • Ensure the camp environment is safe, clean and maintained according to policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years experience coaching or working with youths, with at least 1 year (season) in day camp program scheduling or planning
  • Ability to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

  • Implement the day-to-day activities of the Day Camp
  • Engage and lead campers during daily activities
  • Mentor and facilitate drone and coding learning with campers

Responsibilities

  • Engaging with and leading the scheduled camp activities with campers
  • Prepare any necessary daily or incident reports for Lead Counsellor/Camp Director, parents or other stakeholders
  • Supervise campers during activities, recreation and meal periods, and during any off-site excursions
  • Ensure the camp environment is safe and clean according to ONdronecamp policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Able to obtain Basic or Advanced Transport Canada RPAS Pilot’s Certificate before first day of camp session
