Program

Our One Week Drone Camp offers kids aged 10 to 15 the opportunity to learn aspects of cutting edge drone technology in a fun way.

The program touches on the five areas of STEAM education: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

Campers will experience the science of flight through learning the basics of lift, drag, thrust and air (fluid) dynamics. They will see and learn first hand the technology and engineering behind drone flight and what systems are needed for unmanned aerial vehicles to fly, such as radio communication, motors, visual and inertial positioning systems, coding the drone’s flight instructions and camera systems.

Their creative side will be tapped through exploring the art of aerial imaging and drone photography. They will learn about basic photography principles such as ISO, shutter speed, and f-stops, as well as framing, shot composition, and more.

Finally, there will even be math as our prospective drone pilots learn to calculate flight times, flight altitude and distance limits, memory capacity and more.

But it’s not all just “work” … campers will have opportunities to play and do other camp activities — board games, and more.

Campers are given a “Drone Camp – Pilot-in-training” t-shirt, and at the end of the week they will be issued a Certificate of Completion and get their drone camp “Pilot Wings”. Eligible campers aged 14 and up will be given an opportunity to take the Transport Canada “Basic” remotely piloted aircraft systems exam and “graduate” camp with their very own pilot certificate, allowing them to fly drones!
