Our Camp Program

Campers begin with an ice breaker and orientation to the camp, meeting the staff and their fellow campers. They receive their camp T-shirts and PILOT-IN-TRAINING badges as they prepare for a fun-filled week!

Coding starts on Day 1 as well, by introducing the campers to block-based coding languages like Scratch, popular in schools today. This will get them ready for using Blockly, the language used by our CoDrone EDU drones and prepare them to program the drones through a challenging obstacle course!

Through the remainder of the week, we progressively explore different aviation concepts like weight and balance, payloads, and more. This blends into learning all about drones: how they fly, hover, and function based on their various designs (fixed-wing, quad-copter, etc.) . By the end of the first day, campers will have flown a classroom-safe durable drone and learned fundamentals like control stations, control links, and basic propulsion.

Every day, we touch on one or more of the five core STEAM learning elements. Weather permitting, there are loads of outdoor activities, too, such as testing wind-measuring devices and different hand-thrown aircraft designs, and flying real camera drones like the DJI Mini 3!

Around midweek we bring in our featured guest. During March Break we had the owner of Riot Dog Drones speak to the class about the wide uses of drone technology, especially in search and rescue.

We have contacts in public safety, photography, mapping and more, and each week will see another knowledgeable special guest speak to the camp about their experiences to the campers and help boost their thirst for more.

The week concludes with graduation day! All campers will earn their official “Pilot Wings” pins and receive a certificate of completion. Plus, campers 14 years and older will have the opportunity to take the Transport Canada “Basic” remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) exam and become fully licenced to fly real drones!
